Plenary Walsh Keystone Partners has commenced work on its 500th bridge under the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s (PennDOT) Rapid Bridge Replacement Project, one of the largest P3 projects in the US.
PWKP is busy completing the US$899 million public-private partnership (P3), which includes the replacement of 558 structurally-deficient bridges by the end of the year.
The Rapid Bridge Replacement Project originated in 2013, when PennDOT was challenged by an aging, structurally-deficient bridge inventory and limited funding and resources.
The P3 approach allows PennDOT to replace 558 of its roughly 4,500 structurally deficient bridges more quickly while achieving significant savings and minimizing impact on motorists.
PWKP announced the completion of the 400th bridge in May.
In 2015 the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation contracted the Plenary Walsh Keystone Partners consortium – comprising Plenary Group, Walsh Investors, LLC; Walsh Construction Company, Granite Construction Company, HDR, and Walsh Infrastructure Management – to finance, design, construct and maintain the bridges for 25 years post-completion.
