The Canadian Council for Public-Private Partnerships (CCPPP) announced today that it has honoured the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) Phase 1C Project with the Silver Award for Project Development.

The Awards Committee noted that the CAMH project excelled in its extensive plans to integrate new buildings with the surrounding community to create a more inclusive environment. In addition, the Committee members noted the “project required an enhanced contractual and risk allocation structure as a result of directly interfacing with existing CAMH facilities and with a P3 Project Company involved with an earlier phase of development.

“It is with great excitement that Plenary Health has begun construction on Canada’s largest mental health and addiction teaching hospital and one of the world’s leading research centres in its field. There are so many unique and noteworthy features about the CAMH Phase 1C Development Project that make it stand out as a best-in-class public-private partnership, deserving of this year’s CCPPP Award,” said Angela Clayton, Plenary’s Group Head – Buildings Division.

The CAMH Phase 1C redevelopment project will see the construction of two modern buildings along Queen Street West in Toronto featuring inpatient and outpatient services for those most in need: people who are acutely ill as well as those experiencing the most complex forms of mental illness. The project will result in the construction of approximately 655,000 square feet of new build space, which will include:

  • 235 in-patient beds,
  • Ambulatory programs,
  • Relocation of the emergency department to the Queen Street site,
  • Research and educational facilities,
  • Information and resource facilities, and
  • Site improvements, including parks and green space improvements.

Construction began in October 2017 with an expected substantial completion date of spring 2020.
