Plenary launches its first Reconciliation Action Plan

AUSTRALIA – Plenary has formally joined the Reconciliation Action Plan program following the endorsement of its inaugural Reflect RAP by Reconciliation Australia.

Joining the RAP program marks a formalisation of Plenary’s commitment to develop respectful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, to foster respect for their cultures and communities, and to improve socioeconomic outcomes.

Plenary Chief Executive David Lamming said the RAP is an extension of the work Plenary has been doing through the role it plays in developing and  managing public infrastructure, however it formalises that commitment at an organisational level.

“This is a really significant step in terms of our corporate evolution,” Mr Lamming said.

“We’ve always embraced the need to raise awareness and understanding around reconciliation, but the RAP process has allowed us to deepen our understanding of the influence we are able to have through our role in developing quality public infrastructure for the communities in which it exists.

“We also appreciate the need for mutual recognition of the importance of this commitment with those organisations with whom we partner to deliver and manage our projects.

“I look forward to being part of our RAP initiatives and have no doubt that we will all embrace this commitment as we continue to make a meaningful contribution to our reconciliation journey.”

The artwork Plenary commissioned as part of the RAP process, Ngumpin Kartiya purrupurru jarrakap ngulu manana (Blackfellas and whitefellas speaking together, pictured) by Malngin / Gurindji woman Leah Leaman – part of the Karungkarni Art collective in central Northern Territory – will be on display in Plenary’s Melbourne office.
