Three wins for Plenary at annual CCPPP awards

Plenary is thrilled to celebrate three wins at the 2019 National Awards for Innovation and Excellence in Public-Private Partnerships. The awards were presented on November 18 by The Canadian Council for Public-Private Partnerships (CCPPP) in Toronto.

Former Plenary Concessions CEO, Mike Marasco, was named recipient of the 2019 Champion Award. The award is presented to individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to public-private partnerships in Canada.

“Mike has been a recognized and respected leader for the Canadian P3 model. He is truly a champion and completely deserving of this recognition,” said Mark Romoff, President and CEO of The Canadian Council for Public-Private Partnerships. “He is one of those rare people who have risen above self-interest to advocate for the industry as a whole and is one of the key reasons the Canadian P3 model has become widely accepted and praised.”

“I am truly humbled to be recognized by the Council for my contributions to the P3 industry,” said Marasco. “It was very rewarding to be part of the growth that saw the Canadian P3 market become a world leader. To be among those who previously won this award is a great honour and a nice way to cap off my career as I start a new chapter in my life.”

Library and Archives Canada’s Gatineau 2 Project – Silver Award, Project Development

Canada’s new national preservation facility, which will have the world’s largest automated storage and retrieval system for archival collections once completed, has won silver in this year’s National Awards for Innovation and Excellence in Public-Private Partnerships.

This new flagship building will sit next to and complement the award-winning existing Preservation Centre in Gatineau, Que., which will also undergo improvements under this project. It will be the first “net-zero carbon” facility dedicated to archival preservation in the Americas and the first federal building constructed to the requirements of Canada’s Greening Government Strategy.

This award is a testament to the outstanding work of the Gatineau 2 Project Team, which includes Public Services and Procurement Canada. Stoney CNG Bus Storage and Transit Facility – Silver Award, Infrastructure

The Stoney CNG Bus Storage and Transit Facility has won silver in this year’s National Awards for Innovation and Excellence in Public-Private Partnerships. This gigantic facility near the Calgary International Airport can hold more than 500 standard 12-metre buses and is the largest indoor compressed natural gas bus fueling complex in North America and one of the largest in the world. But not only are the buses using greenhouse gas-reducing technology, this “showpiece facility” is an “impressive example of infrastructure built and designed to incorporate sustainability,” the awards committee said, pointing to its innovative top-down ventilation design that safely and efficiently removes air contaminants, as well as its rainwater harvesting system for its bus wash system.
