Plenary Healthcare Partnerships is pleased to announce that the Humber River Hospital has been recognized by Engineering News Record’s (ENR) Global Best Project Awards, an annual competition that highlights teamwork and overcoming hurdles of designing and building internationally.

Industry veterans selected 23 projects hailing from 15 different countries and five continents. The judges looked at projects in many markets and examined safety performance, innovations, challenges, and design and construction quality – with a special emphasis on the diversity of global project teams and their collaboration.

“We’d like to congratulate the dedicated team of professionals who worked tirelessly to deliver such a complex project on time and on budget. The 1.8 million-square-foot Humber River Hospital is being heralded as the most energy efficient, fully-digital acute care hospital in North America, and Plenary Group is proud to have been part of the team that delivered it,” said Mike Marasco, CEO Plenary Concessions.

The awards will be presented at the ENR Global Best Projects Awards on October 11, 2016 in New York City.

Highlights of the Best Global Healthcare Project

  • The facility is positioned to be the most energy efficient hospital in North America.
  • Built to achieve LEED Silver certification, the facility boasts unprecedented energy targets, 40% higher than ASHRAE 90.1 standards, including 100% fresh air.
  • Incorporation of complete digital integration and interoperability into building functionality, including fully converged Information, Communications and Automation Technology (ICAT) infrastructure and Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs).
  • Like transition sunglasses for a building, the hospital boasts the largest electrochromic glass installation in the world, which uses less energy and enhances infection prevention and control.
  • The project’s critical path was reduced through utilization of industry-leading virtual construction technology and offsite modular construction techniques to prefabricate and install 360 patient washrooms and telecommunications/data rooms.
  • Impressive safety record with over 5 million hours worked without a lost time injury.
