American Airlines has announced it will launch the only nonstop service from the United States to Bimini, Bahamas (BIM), beginning February 14, 2026. The new flights will depart from Miami International Airport (MIA), giving travelers direct access to the pristine beaches, vibrant marine life, and oceanfront accommodations of North and South Bimini.

The service will operate three times weekly — Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays — aboard Embraer 175 aircraft featuring premium cabin options. With more than 80 U.S. and Canadian destinations connecting through Miami, travelers will have convenient access to the gateway of the Bimini Islands.

This announcement comes as a result of the major redevelopment of the South Bimini International Airport being performed by Bimini Airport Development Partners (BADP). BADP assumed airport operations in May 2024 under a long-term public-private partnership concession with the Airport Authority of The Bahamas, and is undertaking significant capital improvements. Major airside enhancements have been substantially completed, delivering improvements to safety, capacity, and regulatory compliance. A new, world-class terminal building with a spacious departures lounge is under construction with scheduled opening in early 2026.

“The launch of American Airlines’ nonstop service to Bimini marks an exciting milestone for the islands and reflects the strength of our partnership with destination stakeholders. With our redevelopment of South Bimini International Airport well underway, we are proud to support enhanced connectivity that will bring more visitors to experience all that Bimini has to offer. This new service is a testament to the island’s growing appeal as a world-class destination.”

Mike Schutt, Senior Vice President & Group Co-head at Plenary Americas and Director of BADP

“This important announcement reflects the collective contributions of our Aviation Regulatory professionals and Tourism Stakeholders as we drive safe and efficient air stopover arrivals to Bimini,” said Dr. Kenneth Romer, Director of Aviation and Deputy Director General of Tourism for The Bahamas

The upgraded airport, combined with American’s new nonstop service, is expected to boost tourism to the Bimini Islands and strengthen the Bahamas’ position as a premier travel destination in the Caribbean.

BADP is a consortium that includes Plenary Americas, Phoenix Infrastructure, and Avports.
