The South Bimini International Airport (BIM) concession involves the responsibility to provide full-service airport operations, including the development of new and more frequent air service to the Bimini islands. As part of this concession, major capital improvements are being undertaken, including a new terminal building, expanded apron, updated navigational aids, new ARFF equipment, and modern safety and security infrastructure.

In May 2024, Bimini Airport Development Partners (BADP) took over responsibility for the airport, running day-to-day operations and commencing construction works.

Design features

The expanded apron will accommodate up to four simultaneous commercial aircraft, while significantly expanding general aviation parking. The new terminal building will provide a world-class and spacious departures lounge, expanded ticketing area, a welcoming courtyard with concessions staffed by local chefs and artisans, expanded security, immigration, and customs processing spaces, and new administrative spaces, including airline offices and support areas.

Local economic impacts

The redevelopment of the South Bimini Airport is expected to unlock significant additional tourism to the Bimini Islands through the addition of new regular commercial air service to the USA, which will provide greatly expanded opportunities for Bimini resident entrepreneurs and workers to grow their businesses and careers.

Community benefits

BADP and its subcontractors are committed to using a workforce comprised of at least 80% Bahamian workers to carry out the project.
