Plenary Roads Denver (PRD) has joined the Colorado Department of Transportation and its High Performance Transportation Enterprise at the grand opening of Phase One of the US 36 Express Lanes project.
Held late last month, the newly rebuilt and expanded 11-mile long corridor from Federal Boulevard to 88th Street in Louisville/Superior was officially opened by the Deputy Secretary of Transportation Victor Mendez and Governor John Hickenlooper, along with Regional Transportation District representatives and local elected officials.
PRD was selected by CDOT in 2012 to finance and build the second phase of the project and to operate and maintain the completed US 36 Express Lanes and I-25 Express Lanes.
Phase Two of the project is still under construction and set to open in early 2016. Once construction is complete, the entire US 36 corridor will be operated by PRD.
Plenary Group’s Senior Vice President, Design and Construction, Terry Ostrom said that construction on the second phase of the project was tracking well towards completion.
“We’re pushing hard to wrap up construction and get the second phase of the project opened by early next year,” said Ostrom. “Once completed, the US 36 corridor will provide those along the corridor increased transportation choices for getting between Boulder to Denver, from riding the bus, biking, and carpooling, to choosing to pay a toll or to continue using the two reconstructed general-purpose lanes for free.”
Phase Two, from 88th Street in Louisville/Superior to Table Mesa in Boulder, extends the same upgrades from Phase One, including rebuilding general purpose lanes, adding an Express Lane in each direction, and making improvements to three bridges along the corridor.
PRD is a consortium of Plenary Group, Ames Construction, Granite Construction, HDR, and Transfield Services.
