It’s been a busy month for the P3 awards circuit and Plenary Americas is thrilled to have taken home top honors for its remarkable corporate and project achievements!
In 2021, Plenary’s portfolio grew to an astounding 55 projects worth more than US$17 billion, with 49 projects in operations and six projects under construction. Over the past year, Plenary demonstrated its ability to develop innovative commercial and financial structures in collaboration with clients and partners, and close deals in the most challenging of circumstances.
Congratulations to our team, our clients and our partners on an outstanding year.
Organization of the Year – Private Sector: Plenary Americas
Plenary Americas was awarded P3 Bulletin’s Organization of the Year, a new category for 2021 that included nominations from all private sector companies. The judges commended Plenary for its ability to meet milestones and deliver projects despite adversity, for working collaboratively with partners and its strong commitment to organizational culture and values.
Social Infrastructure Project of the Year (Highly Commended): Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital
Located on a 40-acre greenfield site, Mackenzie Health’s Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital is the City of Vaughan’s first hospital and the first net new hospital in Ontario in more than 30 years. This complex, 11-storey P3 project is the first hospital in Canada to feature fully integrated smart technology with systems and medical devices that can speak directly to one another. The project also featured a functional design and unique modular solutions including the award-winning prefabricated modular washroom pods.
As Mackenzie Health prepared to open the doors to Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital in February 2021, they were asked to adjust their plans to temporarily transition the hospital into a systemwide resource supporting the Province of Ontario’s COVID-19 response. In June 2021, with COVID-19 cases declining and the growing availability of vaccines, Mackenzie Health and the Government of Ontario decided the time was right to open Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital as a full-service hospital for the community.
The judges considered the use of smart technology within the project to be an important element in the future-proofing of the building. They praised the project as an example of partnership and collaborative teamwork to overcome issues created by the pandemic.
Sponsor of the Year – North America: Plenary Americas
Plenary Americas took home IJGlobal’s North American Sponsor of the Year for the second year in a row. Judges unanimously voted for Plenary with one judge commenting: “Plenary is a dynamic project sponsor that has been very successful in developing unique P3 structures across asset classes. They have been nimble enough to take different types of commercial and financial risks, rather than looking for a specific profile and doing cookie-cutter deals.”
